statement

My work is comprised of two consecutive series. The first is a collection of garments that wrap, cover and protect. Each article of clothing is shown empty, but carrying shapes and forms that reference the body. These articles of costume serve as our social armor and become an extension of our own skin. The second series is a gathering of personal objects and furniture taken from domestic settings. All of the items are worn from use and tend to adopt grand and layered personalities when transplanted into new compositions.

Each image begins with a photograph. The pictures are transferred onto paper or board and layered with pastel, pencil and paint. Lines both real and imagined extend beyond the edge of each image allowing for shapes and textures to become softened. The pieces are small pockets of private space.
